BA Wrap-Up
We made it back from Buenos Aires yesterday. I was too worn out to write anything until today... sorry about that.

Let's see, what is there to tell? We didn't end up going to Uruguay after all... the tickets were sold out on Friday, and we were going to try for Saturday and just spring for the first-class tickets, but I got a cold. I was pretty miserable most of the day Saturday, but somehow the cold subsided enough for more shopping. Imagine that.

We also did a bit more touristy stuff - the Evita Museum, a tour of Teatro Colón
(one of the world's best opera houses, though unfortunately there was no opera playing while we were there), and a visit to the San Telmo and La Boca barrios. Every Sunday, there is an antiques fair in San Telmo, and we picked up a few items. We also drove past the Bombonera, where the Boca Juniors play soccer, which was in La Boca. La Boca can be a pretty dodgy neighborhood, so we stuck to the touristy area.

I've downloaded my pictures, and a lot of them came out really well, so I'm going to make a little photo album to put up here.

We had a couple more amazing meals in BA - in fact, we didn't have a bad meal the entire trip. Some of the restuarants we loved were the hip Italian place Filo, the amazing sushi house Dashi, the "possibly the best meal I've ever eaten" restaurant Sucre, yummy and modern Lomo, and Best...Steak...Ever Cabaña Las Lilas. If you ever go to BA, we would highly recommend these. None of them cost over $70 for two (generally three courses, bottle of wine, bottled water, and coffee), and many were much less.

All in all, it was a fantastic trip, and I'm sad that we had to come home. But that's life, right? Victor starts his job on Monday, and I have to start looking for one of my own.

Goodbye, Buenos Aires!
It has been a really great trip. We are about to hop in a taxi to the airport, so I will write more about our last couple of days when I get back to Dallas tomorrow. Ten-hour flight, here we come!

From the other side of the world
We are still having a good time here. We have done some touristy stuff, like visit the cemetary where Evita is buried, and we went to see the Casa Rosada too. Mostly, we have just wandered around. We are taking it easy, sleeping in and having a nap every day. It is nice. Tomorrow we are going to try to go to Uruguay, which is right across the river.

In other news, my friend Kelly´s dad passed away last night. I feel sad for her and her family. Bad things always seem to happen to good people.

Shop til you drop
We have shopped, but we have not yet dropped. There is a lot of shopping to do in this town, and I think we have only scratched the surface. I have my eye on several things at various shops around town, and I did break down and buy some really cute shoes today. Victor bought a nice denim jacket. The dollar is really strong down here, so most everything is cheap for us.

We have also been doing a lot of eating. The first night, we went to a restaurant called Lomo, where we both had really good steak. Lat night we had sushi. A lot of sushi. It was very yummy. In between, we have had tea, pastries, sandwiches, coffee, and pizza. Not a bad meal yet.

The city itself is huge and very pretty. It has a real European flavor. All of the apartment buildings, which are everywhere, have balconies which are loaded with plants and flowers. The people are very stylish, and there is fur everywhere. PETA would have a heyday with the red paint down here. The girls are all super skinny, so I am having trouble finding clothes that will fit me. When I say super skinny, I mean size 0.

Anyway, we are having a great time. I will check back in soon.

Hello, Buenos Aires!
We made it.  The flight was long and uncomfortable, but we managed to sleep most of the way.  I wish I could figure out how to use this crazy Spanish keyboard.  We are at the hotel, but we are waiting for them to clean the room so that we can unpack, shower, and nap.  The hotel seems very nice, and we took a walk around the block to get a paper.  Victor, native Spanish speaker that he is, is having a good time reading, while I simply look at the pictures.  There is free internet in the lobby.  Hooray! Oh, it is hella cold here, like in the 30s (for you Celsius lovers, it was 3 degrees when we got here).  Anyway, I will write more when we have actually seen more of the city.

So long (for a little while)
We're off to lovely, wintery Buenos Aires, Argentina.  I'm not sure how much internet access I'll have down there, but I'll write a line or two if I can.  Otherwise, see you in a week and a half!

High speed, baby.
Hooray, we got our high speed internet hooked up today.  I'm so happy.  Too bad I didn't finish unpacking... unfortunately, I started feeling crappy (asthma woes) last night, and I just went right to bed around 10:30.  I couldn't sleep, but I felt better lying down.

This morning, after the alarm went off, I had a crazy dream.  My dad had given Victor and me baseball tickets for a game that same day.  So we went to Victor's apartment (fictional, since we now live together) to get ready for the game.  Somehow, he was living next to Interpol, who were in their apartment recording their new album. We chatted with them for a while, and I told Victor I didn't think they'd get done by the release date. Also, the Shins stopped by for a chat too. Anyway, after that, we headed to the bar/theatre at the back of this crazy apartment building, where there was some sort of crazy Mexican puppet show going on. Victor and I got really drunk, and he ended up slitting the throat of this skanky woman. Well, her boyfriend didn't like that, and he asked Victor to show him where he had killed the girlfriend. So they went off to Victor's apartment. I got drunker, spilled some stuff on myself, and then realized we had missed the baseball game. So I went to find Victor, and came upon a horrific scene in his apartment. The boyfriend of the dead girl had shaved Victor's (now bloody) head into a Mohawk, had stripped his pants and underwear off, and was abusing him. He was all covered in blood and moaning. When he saw me, the guy shoved Victor into a closet. I found a keyboard (the type you play), unplugged it, and beat the living crap out of the guy's head and face, until I think he was dead. All the while, I could hear Victor moaning. Then I woke up.

What the hell is wrong with me?

Gonna have to face it, I'm addicted to skirts.

I've been organizing my closet today.  I'm still finding more clothes to unpack, and they were beginning to pile up, so I decided to tackle the whole mess.  You know those four-tiered skirt hangers?  Well, I had two, and they were full.  I kept finding more and more skirts, so I purchased an additional skirt hanger when I was at Grapevine Mills.  Oops, still not enough!  So I just went to Target to get three more.  Guess what?  I still have more skirts left hangerless.  I shudder to think what I sent off in my dry cleaning, which Victor will deliver tomorrow.  There are at least two in there.  And what did I buy today?  Another frickin' skirt.

Tonight, I'm concentrating on some hardcore unpacking.  Victor's getting home tomorrow, and I want to have everything unpacked that is humanly possible before he gets here.  Wait, do I sound like a '50's housewife?  Hmmm... even though I do have some Suzy Homemaker tendencies, the real impetus behind my rush to complete the Great Unpacking is that we are leaving for Argentina on Saturday.  Nine glorious days in Buenos Aires!  I refuse to come back to a house full of boxes.

I've been pretty sporadic with the olde blogging lately, for which I humbly apologize.  This also means I have failed to properly promote my friend Kris's latest theatrical venture. He's currently in a play called The Pyrates in Chicago, which is a production of Defiant Theatre. It's been getting good reviews, and Defiant Theatre even appears in my Time Out Chicago guide, so that's got to be a good sign. Chicagoans, go see Kris!

Alright, back to the grindstone.  You know, I used to work in a place with an actual grindstone, but that's a story for another day.

The Big D
Greetings from Dallas. It's been a long, crazy trip thus far.

We did end up finishing the moving thing in time to make it to dinner Thursday night. Friday morning, I drove up to Dallas. Kat and Mark were driving up too, because a couple of Kat's films were in the Dallas Video Festival. I followed them up there, and it was a good thing I did... because I had a blow out (and not the Jonathan Antin kind - the kind where your tire explodes on the interstate while going 75 mph). Therefore, I missed the appointment to set up my high speed internet, which still is not set up (I've rigged a scary dial-up connection). Victor showed up around 4pm, and we were ready to receive our huge shipment of stuff. However, the movers called at 5pm to let us know they weren't getting there until Saturday, instead of the Friday afternoon they promised us. Arrrgh!

Long story short, we did finally get our stuff on Saturday, manouvering around the homeless people and various tenants moving in and out. We were able to unpack about a fourth of the stuff before Victor left on Sunday. I've been spending the week unpacking the rest. I'm still not done. We did get our new TV and digital cable yesterday, so I've been slacking off watching marathons of I Love the 90's today. Oh, we also saw Anchorman on Saturday with Mark and Kat. It took a while to grow on me, but I ended up loving it.

Oooh, the other new development is that I finally got a cell phone! I haven't had one for the last 2 1/2 years (the entire time I lived in Austin), so it was nice to get one again. Thank you, Victor, for adding a line for me!

Moving day!
Again.

The movers are coming today to get Victor's stuff. I'm going to be unplugging my computer in a few short minutes. I'm moving it up there myself... I'm scared of what the movers might do to the flat panel monitor.

We woke up around 7:30 because the movers were supposed to be here between 8am and 10am. At 9, they called to say they were right outside of Corpus Christi, which is, oh, three hours away. I'm so glad we got up so early. We had breakfast at the Red River Cafe, one of our usual breakfast spots, where we found some of our friends eating too.

This very well may be my last post from Austin. Ah, Austin, I've loved ya. I'm sad to go. Onward to new adventures!

Update: Movers still not here at 1:45pm. Worrying about our 7pm dinner reservations at Chez Zee.

A quickie!
Packed. Moved. Storing stuff at Victor's house until Thursday, when the movers come.

Painted new place. Lime green, purple, red, and blue. I really like it. It will look amazing when we move in.

Today: going away party. Hot dogs and hamburgers. I'm going to get sad.

PS - Not working rocks! Too bad about my bank account...
