Feel-Good Hit of the Summer

Well, it's more like a punch in the gut than a hit, I think, and it doesn't exactly feel good! I suppose summer has been here for quite some time, but it's definitely out in full force today. We got a giant electricity bill this week... maybe it's because we stayed home every weekend last month, so the A/C was constantly on. We have decided to give up sleeping with the A/C turned down to 74F and instead are going to leave it at 75F and sleep with just a sheet. Both of us prefer to sleep with heavier bedding in temperatures akin to a meat locker, but apparently that's not in our budget this summer. We're also experimenting with turning it up to 79F while we're out for the day.
So, today I thought I'd bring you some tips for surving the Texas heat (or the heat in your geographical location, if it is bad):
Oh hell, my list is kind of boring. Let's see what Steve Carell has to say about the subject...
Ah yes, that's much better.

So, today I thought I'd bring you some tips for surving the Texas heat (or the heat in your geographical location, if it is bad):
- Eat lots of snow cones. We had some on Sunday in Austin at Casey's New Orleans Snowballs. Divine.
- Eat Mexican food. Try to stay away from the heavy, greasy Tex-Mex and find something authentic with queso fresco, avacodos, and Mexican sour cream. I think that chicken tostadas are especially refreshing when it's hot.
- Go swimming! It sucks when you don't have a pool (we don't have one), but find somewhere to go swimming. Bonus points if you go tubing or swim in a river or creek.
- Stay inside where it's cool. Going outside will just make you sweaty. Unless you're swimming, of course (see above).
- Frozen margaritas! Frozen mojitos! Frozen daiquiris! Get out your Magic Bullet and crush some ice. It doesn't feel as hot if you're drunk. Hey, shut up, I totally have a Magic Bullet, and I love it.
- Homemade ice cream. Hmm, I need to buy an ice cream maker...
- Get out of Texas. It's in the 60s today in Seattle. How about an Alaskan adventure? And I hear the southern hemisphere is pretty nice this time of year.
Oh hell, my list is kind of boring. Let's see what Steve Carell has to say about the subject...
Ah yes, that's much better.
